The boss of the Sinaloa Cartel, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera, was extradited to the United States in 2018. Only in the trial against him for drug trafficking did he see his wife Emma Coronel again.
Born in Santa Clara, California in July 1989, she has Mexican and United States citizenship. During her childhood she was raised in Canelas, Durango, an area located in the Golden Triangle, a famous drug trafficking point where the states of Chihuahua, Sinaloa and Durango are located.

Years later, in 2014, the criminal leader was captured in Mazatlán and when he was transferred to the Altiplano prison, Coronel took the opportunity to serve as a link with his children and other members of the Cartel who finally orchestrated his escape through a tunnel in 2015.

Registering a clothing brand called El Chapo Guzmán JGL, LLC, according to InSight Crime; her appearing on television shows and posting on social networks, until in February 2021 she was captured at the Virginia International Airport, on charges in a Columbia court.
After pleading guilty, he remained in prison for two and a half years; after being granted parole, he decided to continue living in the United States.
