The Minister of Housing, Catalina Velasco Campuzano, explained that the advances are the result of rehabilitation projects and supply of drinking water in 162 communities. To date, more than $21 billion has been invested in these initiatives, which include the construction and rehabilitation of 560 infrastructuresof which 62 have already been completed.
In addition, the Ministry has led the Water Technical Committee within the framework of the Special Mechanism for Monitoring and Evaluation of Public Policies. This committee has facilitated coordination between national, departmental and municipal entities, allowing the implementation of necessary actions to ensure access to water in La Guajira.
In parallel to these efforts, the Government has announced the opening of an international public tender, published in the Electronic Public Contracting System (Secop), to structure a definitive solution for the supply of drinking water in the region. This solution seeks to benefit a million people and contemplates the conduction of water from the reservoir El Cercado del Río Ranchería to the middle and upper Guajira. Also included is the installation of desalination plants necessary for the project.
