How harmful is the GLSDB bomb aid to Ukraine?

Recently, many Western media agencies reported that Ukraine will soon be transferred ground-launched small diameter bombs (GLSDB) from the US.

Bom GLSDB will soon appear on the battlefield in Ukraine in the near future.

Considered a “hybrid” weapon, the GLSDB bomb is made from a unique combination of smart bombs and rocket artillery. Although designated as a bomb, GLSDB’s launch method is from ground-based rocket artillery systems instead of traditional launching aircraft.

A joint venture product between Boeing (USA) and SAAB (Sweden), GLSDB combines the M26 rocket engine with the GBU-38 smart bomb, turning it into a precision-guided ground tactical weapon. from M 270 and HIMARS rocket artillery systems.

The GLSDB bomb consists of two main components, of which the offensive role is the GBU-39 small diameter bomb combined with M26 rocket bullets to launch from the ground. It has a length of 3.9m, a diameter of 0.24m and weighs about 272 kg.

GLSDB is equipped with an inertial navigation system and a military global positioning system; combined with a multi-purpose warhead, fragmentation explosive and programmable electronic detonator. With this guidance system, this weapon is also capable of operating in all terrain and weather conditions with a target error of only about 1 meter.

The advantage of this hybrid weapon is its high precision attack ability, destructive power not inferior to expensive cruise missiles at distances up to 160km and reasonable cost.

Ukraine is the first battlefield of this weapon. In the latest statement, Russian military officials announced that they have a plan to deal with and neutralize this new hybrid weapon from Ukraine.
