In the first half of this year, 18 billion 177 million cubic meters of blue gas were produced in Azerbaijan. 29.9 percent of natural gas was consumed within the country, 56.5 percent was exported, 1.5 percent was wasted, and 12.1 percent was stored as a reserve until the beginning of July. 59.6 percent of the natural gas consumed within the country was spent on production needs, and 40.4 percent was sold to the population.
Publika.az MP Vugar Bayramov said about this. He noted that the main point of attention in the use of blue gas is that the share of domestic consumption is relatively high.
“According to official statistics, 5 billion 434 million cubic meters of blue gas were consumed in the country in the first half of this year. The volume of gas consumed by Azerbaijan in just half a year is 2 times more than the annual gas consumption of Serbia, 64.0 percent more than the initial consumption of Bulgaria, 62.0 percent more than the annual consumption of Switzerland, and 17.0 percent more than the annual consumption of Norway.
As you can see, Azerbaijan’s half-yearly gas consumption is more than the annual consumption of a number of countries whose economies are larger than ours.”
The deputy noted that there is a need to separately analyze the reasons for such high domestic consumption:
“Of course, although there are objective factors such as the lack of a centralized heating system in residential buildings, it is very important to analyze other reasons as well.
On the other hand, reducing domestic consumption can lead to increasing Azerbaijan’s export potential. That is, the more domestic consumption is minimized, the more we will be able to export and increase the volume of foreign currency entering the country. Therefore, there is a need for real analyzes and expansion of reforms in this area.
