How do bread prices differ in Kazakhstan and other countries?

In the capital of which CIS country has the cheapest bread, analysts have calculated, Liter.kz reports.

According to Energyprom.kz, over the year in Kazakhstan, a loaf of bread became more expensive by 5.6%. The product made from premium flour increased in price the most – by 9.2%.

The largest increase in bread prices was noted:

  • in the Abai region — at 16% per year,
  • Almaty — 15.9%,
  • Zhetysu region – by 8.5%.

Wheat bread made from premium flour cost 371 tenge per kilogram in markets and stores across the country in January, bread made from first-grade flour – 202 tenge per kilogram, rye-wheat bread – 475 tenge per kilogram.

Meanwhile, according to Numbeo analysts globally, a loaf of bread weighing 500 grams in Kazakhstan cost $0.5. In the capitals of other CIS countries:

  • in Azerbaijan – 0.42,
  • in Uzbekistan – 0.47,
  • in Russia – 0.51,
  • in Armenia – 0.69.

The cheapest bread costs in Tunisia and Algeria – $0.16. The most expensive in the USA is $3.56. True, analysts do not take into account the difference in income between countries.

It was previously reported that Kazakhstanis spend 55% of their income on food. For the second year, Kazakhstan has maintained anti-leadership in the EAEU in terms of inflation for food and non-food products.
