Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s campaign on Tuesday lashed out at Minnesota Governor Tim Walz’s choice as Democratic nominee Kamala Harris’ vice presidential running mate, calling him a “radical leftist.”
“If Walz won’t tell voters the truth, we will: Like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is a dangerous left-wing extremist,” Karoline Leavitt, press secretary for Trump’s campaign, said in a statement.
Walz was chosen this Tuesday by the current vice president and candidate for the White House, Kamala Harris, hours before appearing together for the first time in public at a rally in Philadelphia, in the key state of Pennsylvania.
Trump supporters claimed that Walz’s political project at the head of Minnesotain the Midwest of the country, has consisted of “remodeling” his state “in the image” of California, land of Kamala Harris and considered a mecca of the left for Republicans.
“While Walz pretends to support Americans in the heartland, when the cameras are off, he believes rural America is mostly ‘made up of cows and rocks,’” the campaign said.
For Republicans, Walz is a danger because he has proposed “tougher emissions standards for gasoline-powered cars and policies that allow convicted felons to vote.”
“Walz is obsessed with spreading California’s dangerous leftist agenda everywhere,” which “is a nightmare for all Americans,” the campaign insisted.
Walz, 60, is considered the most progressive of Harris’s shortlist of candidates, which also included Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly.
The Minnesota governor, who was a high school teacher before entering politics, boasts of having approved free school meals in the state, and has received the backing of Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders, from the more progressive wing of the party.
