Housing Minister mentions that the president should earn more than any other authority

Hania Pérez de Cuéllar shared her position on the need to organize salaries in the public sector.

The owner of the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (MVCS), Hania Perez from Cuellardefended the president’s recent message to the nation In Boluarte during an interview on the Punto Final programme. The minister justified the five-hour speech. She stated that it was “necessary” for the regions and provinces, since specific commitments were detailed for each region. The minister considers this crucial for accountability.

He also said that although not everyone had listened to the five-hour speech, the ministers would now have to explain it in detail.

Achievements in the housing sector

According to Pérez de Cuéllar, the president’s speech reflected the work of all the ministries in Peru. She also assured that 100% of the commitments announced in the previous speech on July 28 regarding the housing sector have been fulfilled.

The minister was questioned about the creation of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the high levels of corruption in the public sector, especially during the transfer of large sums of money. Pérez de Cuéllar clarified that various ministries will not be merged and that the guarantee to avoid corruption must be part of the debates and the political agenda. She indicated that centralizing policies and having a clearer and more organic strategy could be beneficial, because it will help resolve problems related to public works that affect several ministries, not just the Ministry of Housing.

Salary regulation in the public sector

The head of the MVCS expressed the need for an ordering of salaries in the public sector, pointing out that the president should have the highest salary in the country. Although she acknowledged that it would not be popular to reduce the salaries of ministers and congressmen, she maintained that it is correct that the president of the Republic has the highest salary. In addition, the minister stressed the importance of reforming not only salaries, but also the profiles and skills of public officials.
