House: Aid for Ukrainian refugees and temporary protection

Today, the Chamber of Deputies could discuss the further extension of temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees. In the initial round, there is also, for example, an amendment that will simplify the transfer of unnecessary state properties to municipalities and regions, if they are interested in them. The lower house meeting will begin this afternoon.

Deputies should first deal with the drafts in the second reading, in which they can apply amendments. They include an amendment that will enshrine the rules for social and health services. The Social Committee wants to supplement it with the abolition of the upper limit of the price for a stay in private homes for the elderly or facilities that will not be part of the basic network of social services. The opposition does not agree with this.

Another amendment to the law, called lex Ukraine, assumes that it would not have to be changed annually in the future due to the extension of temporary protection for war refugees from this country. The protection would be extended automatically as decided at the level of the European Union. According to the draft, economically self-sufficient Ukrainians could also obtain a special long-term residence permit in the Czech Republic.

The government’s property amendment assumes, among other things, that only the Ministry of Finance will decide on real estate transfers. The Ministries of Culture and the Environment, which were now involved in decision-making, will now only submit opinions. The bill also establishes the rules for which real estate municipalities will be able to take over from the state for free and for which they will have to pay.
