Accusations against the Maduro regime
Hours before the incident, the Vente Venezuela Human Rights Committee had denounced an escalation in repression by the Nicolás Maduro regime. According to the committee, this repression seeks to criminalize witnesses and polling station members who participated in the presidential elections of July 28.
“The Nicolás Maduro regime has launched a harsh attack through its repressive organs that seeks to criminalize the work of the witnesses and polling station members who participated in the presidential elections,” the committee stated. They also noted that “these Venezuelans have not committed any crime. Their only job has been to defend and protect the decision of the Venezuelans who exercised their right to vote.”
Complaint from Vente Venezuela
Vente Venezuela directly accused the Maduro government of being behind the attack. They argue that these acts seek to intimidate the opposition and silence dissenting voices. The complaint highlights that this attack is part of a broader strategy of political repression that affects citizens who defend their democratic rights.
