If we wanted to briefly describe a vacation on the Polish coast, it could be said that it is a “crossbreed” between Mách Lake and Croatia. The pine forests along the beaches are reminiscent of the surroundings of the lake in the Liberec region, while the long promenades with stalls are reminiscent of the coast in Biograd or Baška Voda.
Blesk Zpráv reporter went with her family at the foot of the popular Hel peninsula, one of the most popular tourist resorts. What do you have to expect besides the cold Baltic? How much will the accommodation cost? Where to go and what to taste?
On the highway without tolls
We drove by car from Ústí nad Labem, we therefore chose the route through Germany. On a weekday, the traffic was perhaps surprisingly smooth, both on the highway around Berlin and later in Poland. Because we were traveling with a caravan, the journey was longer and after less than 500 kilometers we parked near Szczecin at a new highway rest area.
Poland is massively and especially rapidly building highways and with them the necessary infrastructure. Large parking lots, gas stations and rest areas with all facilities, including washrooms and playgrounds, can be found every few tens of kilometers.
The highway ends and we continue on a classic road, in the Czech Republic you could say a first-class road. But you can see from the sides that the S3 will soon lead further, there are tens of kilometers of highway in various stages of construction. And especially – no tolls are paid during holidays.
The last roughly 100 kilometers are the most demanding, as there is no highway or higher-capacity road. Thousands of cars drive through villages and towns.
Watch out for speed
In municipalities, the same speed as in the Czech Republic generally applies, i.e. 50 km/h, but you will often come across a reduced speed, so it pays to follow the signs. Compared to Czech roads, the reduced speed does not apply automatically, but only in places where the village sign is complemented by a white sign with a relief of houses.
Outside the municipality, the speed limit is 90 km/h, on highways 130 km/h. Speeding is not worth it, fines are up to ten times higher than in the Czech Republic.
