DOHA – The Indonesian U-23 national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup after beating Jordan U-23 with a score of 4-1. Amazingly, this achievement marks the first time the Indonesian National Team has appeared in the U-23 Asian Cup.

Playing at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha, Qatar, Sunday (21/4/2024) evening, the U-23 Indonesian National Team opened the scoring through Marselino Ferdinan’s penalty kick in the 22nd minute. Before halftime, Garuda Muda doubled their lead through Witan Sulaeman’s beautiful goal in the 42nd minute which was born thanks to the collaboration of Marselino Ferdinan.

In the second half, the Indonesian U-23 National Team put their nails into the Jordan U-23 defense even more. As a result, in the 70th minute Marselino Ferdinan scored a beautiful and classy goal after receiving Witan Sulaeman’s pass. The score changed 3-0.

Jordan U-23 managed to reduce the deficit to 1-3 through Justin Hubner’s own goal in the 79th minute. However, the U-23 Indonesian National Team managed to increase their lead again to 4-1 through Komang Teguh’s header in the 86th minute using Pratama Arhan’s long-range throw.

The 4-1 score lasted until the match ended and marked Indonesia’s victory over Jordan. With the addition of perfect points, the Indonesian National Team finished as runners up in Group A with 6 points behind Qatar.

This result also fulfills the PSSI target imposed on Shin Tae-yong in order to extend his coaching contract.
