On this historic day, Deputy High Commissioner Andalib Ilyas spoke about preserving Bangabandhu’s chair in Kolkata.

He said, we are still in discussion with Jadavpur University and Calcutta University regarding the preservation of Bangabandhu’s chair in Kolkata. We have made quite a bit of progress on this matter. Some complications were created due to some unrest about the post of Vice-Chancellors of these two universities. Being a bureaucrat myself, I understand that there is some delay due to some bureaucratic work between the two countries. But it’s not like it’s relaxed.

He also said that we have collected some information from Kolkata’s Jadavpur University and sent it to Dhaka. Constructive discussions are going on between us about how the cost will be, who will pay the cost, what kind of teaching will be done, what subjects will be researched. I am very hopeful, we will be able to settle the technical issues of both sides and establish the chair very soon. We are trying to complete the work this year.
