Historic medal for Coahuila in fencing

The Coahuila athlete Alice Suazo García obtained a historic bronze medal in the fencing discipline, within the Conade 2024 National Games held in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

It was in the Saber modality, category 12 – 13 years old, where the La Laguna fencer began her path to the podium after qualifying for the direct elimination phase in fourth place, after six victories in seven fights, during an overwhelming group stage. In the round of 16, Alice Suazo García defeated Katherin Flores, from Jalisco, by 15 points to 11; while in the quarterfinals she defeated Beatriz Castillo by 15 to 12, to settle in the area that would distribute the medals, which was already a milestone for Coahuila fencing.

Alice Suazo won the bronze medal after losing to Camila Hernández, from Nuevo León, 15 – 14 in the semifinals, third place that she shared with Yisel Guajardo from New Leon, according to the format of this competition. The fencer from Coahuila took a leap in quality compared to her previous participation, since, in 2023, she finished in 14th position, so this bronze represents a historic triumph for her nascent sports career.
