Five-time Grammy winner Shania Twain (listen!) has released six albums that have sold more than 100 million copies in total, making the Canadian one of the highest-earning country stars in the world. “The woman in me”, “Come” and “Come on!” they have more than 30 platinum awards. Furthermore, she has also released three diamond albums.
The artist’s biggest hits include “Any Man of Mine”, “That Don’t Impress Me Much”, “You’re Still the One” and “Man! I Feel Like A Woman”. As a cultural icon, Shania Twain continues to receive praise from contemporary artists who grew up on her music, such as Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Kacey Musgraves, Haim, and Avril Lavigne.
The artist was helped in building her career by her husband Robert “Mutte” Lunge, whom she married in December 1993. The couple also had a son named Eja. However, the perfect marriage eventually fell apart. All in relation to the betrayal committed by the star’s husband.
The marriage of the producer and the singer lasted 14 years and ended in 2008. Then Shania Twain discovered that her husband was having an affair with his assistant and close friend Marie-Anne Thiebaud.
The separation from her husband meant that the singer suffered in subsequent years with voice problems, which hindered her career. “I was at home, looking at the ocean, and I said to myself, ‘I’m stuck in a bad past, but it’s so beautiful outside.’ I’m not in the mood to write songs that make me feel sorry for myself. You can’t have the good without the bad “And that’s how the song ends,” Shania Twain recalled years later.
In an interview with AARP Magazine, Twain admitted that the time after discovering her husband’s infidelity was extremely difficult for her. “There was a time in my life when I didn’t care if tomorrow came. But I survived. I was in quicksand. I panicked, like everyone else, but I didn’t give up. I found a way out,” he recalled.

The singer found comfort with Frederic Thiebaud, who was… the husband of Marie-Anne, his ex’s lover. On January 1, 2011, Twain remarried. Twain describes his current relationship as follows: “It’s a twisted relationship, but twisted in a wonderful way.”
The theme of her husband’s betrayal returned again when Shania Twain released the album “Now” in 2017 – for the first time in 15 years. It featured the song “Life’s About To Get Good” (check it out!), in which the ’90s star finally settled the score with her ex-husband Robert “Mutt” Lang. In the video for the song we can see a scene in which, after turning over the frame with their photo together, Lange disappears from the photo.
In 2022, in the Netflix documentary “Not Just a Girl”, Twain spoke again about the high-profile breakup.
“When I left Mutt, the sadness was comparable to the loss of my parents. I felt like I had felt the death of someone important. The death was the end of many aspects of my life and I never accepted the passing of my parents, I was convinced of it [z rozwodem] I’ll never be able to do it either. I thought, ‘I’ll never get out of this.’ Ultimately, I decided the only thing I could do was decide how I would proceed,” she commented.
Twain added that she believed she would never write new songs after her separation from her husband. Fans had to wait a long time for her next songs.
“It was mainly about gaining independence, the ability to listen to my own recordings. I decided that I couldn’t stop creating forever because Mutt wasn’t with me (…). I told myself that not only would I go back to in I study, but I would write the music for the whole album and rediscover myself,” she said.
