Israel and Palestine Debate About the History of Jesus. PHOTO/DAILY
As reported by RT, Sunday (10/3/2024), when the Gaza War entered its fifth month, both sides launched a Christian dispute
Palestinian diplomat Riham Barghouti first delivered a speech in memory of Jesus of Nazareth at the UN Human Rights Council session earlier this week, when condemning Israel’s military actions in Gaza which have killed more than 30,000 people and injured 70,000 others so far.
“Jesus was born in Palestine. And if Jesus were alive, he would weep bitterly because of the murder of children in the land where he was born,” Barghouti said.
A 14-second video of the statement was shared by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs on their Russian-language Telegram channel, accompanied by a scathing condemnation.
”The Palestinian representative at the UN is lying again. Jesus was a Jew, born in Judea, and would be brutally murdered by Hamas or taken hostage on October 7th. “The Palestinian delegation at the UN will praise this crime, as it is happening now,” the Israeli ministry said.
Their posts were made on Thursday (7/3), five months after Palestinian militant groups stormed Israeli posts and settlements near Gaza, killing around 1,200 people and taking more than 200 hostage.
Christians believe Jesus was born to a Jewish family from Nazareth, which is now the largest city in Israel’s Northern District. Bethlehem, the ‘little town’ of Christ’s birth, was at that time located in the Roman-dominated Herodian kingdom.
Today the city lies about ten kilometers south of divided Jerusalem, in the Palestinian-controlled West Bank, which was historically dominated by Arab Christians and today is predominantly Arab Muslim.
The Jewish view of Jesus Christ is a collection of opinions from Jews regarding the figure of Jesus Christ who is the center of Christian belief.
Most Jews who claim to be followers of Judaism do not accept Jesus as the Messiah.
