Hippo attacks pride of lions

There, a lion acted as a distraction for the hippo, while the others tried to attack it from behind. The hippo was no pushover either, opening its mouth wide, ready to grab any unfortunate victim.

Hippos and lions created a dramatic fight, making observers unable to take their eyes off the camera.

However, while the lions grew calmer and waited for their chance, the hippo became panicked. The situation became worse and worse for him.

As the hippos could no longer keep up with the lions’ speed, the hunters got closer to victory. One lion even nearly jumped on the hippo’s back, and sank its fangs into it.

Realizing that it was in danger, the hippo decided to turn around and run straight into the river a few meters away. This was probably the best decision it made, as it saved its life from the experienced hunters.

Despite their heavy and large appearance, hippos are actually extremely agile, and are the most fearsome animals on the African savannah.

Hippos are also the animals that cause the most deaths to humans in the world, more than venomous snakes, sharks, leopards or lions… On average, hippos cause the deaths of about 500 people each year in Africa alone, the region with the largest number of wild hippos.

However, hippopotamus numbers are still declining due to habitat loss and global warming. Hippos are listed as vulnerable to extinction. The International Union for Conservation of Nature estimates that there are between 125,000 and 150,000 hippos left in the wild.
