During the ongoing dry season, various roads in Dinajpur’s Hilli have now turned into a state of dust. Pedestrians have to face a lot of trouble. However, the local municipal authorities claim that efforts are being made to control the dust by sprinkling water.
It has been found that the road construction is going on from Charmatha and CP to Ghoraghat upazila parishad of Hili city. Besides, construction of drain from Hili Charmatha to Jalalpur is going on. Every day, hundreds of trucks carrying various products from India enter Panama Port from Healy Zero Line. There is a lot of dust on the road.
In such a situation, on Saturday (March 2) afternoon, hundreds of local youth rallied to keep Hili city dust-free with slogans like ‘I want to take fresh oxygen’, ‘I want to save the future generation’. At the end of the rally, they cleaned the dust on the Hilli CP road.
Samajsevak Jabed Hossain Russell said that hundreds of local students rallied to remove dust from the road from Zeropoint to Charmatha. During the current dry season, road traffic has become a liability due to dust and sand. Besides, children students have to face various health risks. We the people of Hilli want a dust free city.
Raihan Kabir, an eighth grade student of Hilli Pilot High School, says, My house is on CP Road. Going from home to school makes it difficult to breathe in the dust. Due to dust we have to face many problems. We want to get rid of dust.
Sixty-year-old rickshaw driver Amed Ali said that almost all the roads in Hili are broken. A few roads became suffocated due to dust. Passengers also don’t want to ride rickshaws because of dust. Income has decreased.
When asked, one of the members of Hili Tura-Corridor Committee, Zahidul Islam said, Hili land port is one of the country’s land ports. The government earns thousands of rupees through this port. But Healy’s grief is on the streets. Most of the roads in the city are now known as dirt roads. Our movement has become a liability.
When asked to know, Mayor of Hakimpur Municipality Jamil Hossain Chalanta said that everyone will have to suffer a little during the development of Hili road. We are trying to control the dust by sprinkling water every day on behalf of the municipality.
