Highest salt production record in 63 years – 2024-05-01 21:51:37

During the current salt season (up to April 28) 22 lakh 34 thousand 658 tons of salt have been produced. Which surpassed all previous year’s records. Still salt production continues. Earlier last year (FY 2022-23) the production of salt was the highest in 62 years. The highest production record till that time was 22 lakh 32 thousand 890 tons.

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BCIC) acts as a sponsor of the salt industry. Bisik informed this information in a circular on Monday (April 29).

According to the organization, the total land cultivated for salt in the current salt season is 68 thousand 357 acres. Last year was 66 thousand 424 acres. Compared to last year, the land for salt cultivation has increased by 1 thousand 933 acres.

In the current salt season, the number of salt farmers is 40 thousand 695, which was 39 thousand 467 last year. Compared to last year, the number of salt farmers increased by 1,228. Currently, the average price of crude salt at the salt field level is Tk 312 per maund, which was Tk 420 last year.

Highest salt production record in 63 years

Salt production is ongoing during the current salt season, which is likely to continue till mid-May. If the weather is favorable it will be possible to produce salt as per the target and demand.
