Trump has repeatedly said he would end wars within 24 hours if elected U.S. president, most recently at Tuesday night’s debate against Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
“To end a war, you need someone that people fear first of all,” Vance told former US Navy SEAL and former CIA contractor Shawn Ryan in an interview. podcast.
“You have to worry that if Donald Trump—or God forbid, Kamala Harris—says something, that they actually mean it. But you believe it with Donald Trump, you don’t believe it with Kamala Harris. That’s deterrence,” he said.
When asked what Trump’s peace proposal might look like, Vance outlined a scenario he thought was possible.
“The current line of contact will be a demilitarized zone, heavily fortified to prevent Russia from attacking again,” he told Ryan, as quoted by Reuters. Russia TodayFriday (13/9/2024).
Ukraine, Vance said, would maintain its independence and sovereignty, but Russia would receive a guarantee of neutrality from Ukraine. “It will not join NATO or any other similar institution,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s reconstruction is to be funded primarily by Germany and European Union countries, which Vance accuses of being responsible for Kyiv’s war effort.
“I think that’s what it’s going to look like in the end,” he said.
