Hepatitis in children: WHO recorded nearly 230 cases worldwide

The World Health Organization (WHO) continues to receive dozens of reports about cases of a mysterious hepatitis that affects children and has so far recorded about 230 cases around the worldthe institution indicated on Tuesday.

«Until May 1, the following have been pointed out: OMS 228 cases in 209 countries and another 50 are being investigated“WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic told reporters in Geneva.

Most cases are recorded in Europe, especially in the United Kingdom.

The origin of these hepatitises remains a mystery.

On 5 April, WHO was informed of 10 cases of severe acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children under 10 years of age in central Scotland. On April 8, 74 had already been identified cases in the United Kingdom.

This hepatitis causes jaundice, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal pain. Some cases have required a liver transplant and at least one child died.

Los common hepatitis viruses have not been recorded in any of the casesaccording to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the OMS.

An analysis of these mysterious cases of hepatitis in the United States led the country’s health authorities to think that their origin could be a common pathogen called adenovirus 41, although for now this remains a hypothesis.

Adenoviruses, usually banal, cause respiratory problems, conjunctivitis or digestive problems. They are more frequent in winter and They are easily transmitted in daycare centers and schoolsMost humans become infected before the age of 5.
