Heavy fall in stock market, 88 percent stocks fell

New Delhi, The stock market fell on Wednesday due to heavy fall in PSU, power, infrastructure, metal, realty stocks. The BSE Sensex fell 1,008.86 points or 1.37 per cent to 72,675.59. On the other hand, Nifty is trading at 21,958.30, down 377 or 1.69 percent. Among the falling Sensex stocks, Power Grid is down by more than 6 per cent, NTPC is down by 6 per cent, Tata Steel is down by more than 4 per cent. A huge decline is being seen in all sectors. The PSU stock index is down more than 5 per cent, the utilities index is down more than 6 per cent, the realty index is down more than 5 per cent and the metal index is down more than 4 per cent.
The troubles of small caps are increasing, which have fallen by more than 4 percent. There is a decline of more than 3 percent in midcap. The SME IPO index is down more than 4 percent. The market is in the red with 88 percent shares falling. At least 975 shares hit the lower circuit, indicating selling pressure.

Vijayakumar said that in the near term, investors should focus on the continued slowdown in the broader market, especially the small cap segment. Due to excessive enthusiasm of retail investors, valuations in these sectors are high, which remains a matter of concern.
