Heat wave: 80 schools took action

In this hot season, there are 68 public basic education schools in La Laguna de Durango that decided to reduce school hours, from 8 to 11 in the morning because they do not have the necessary cooling devices and roofs or because they have problems supply and supply of drinking water. The Undersecretary of Education in the region, Fernando Ulises Adame de León, said that there are 12 other educational establishments that will finish the 2023-2024 school year in distance mode, because they acquired mini-splits with resources from the federal program La Escuela es Nuestra, but They had electrical overload problems and the air equipment broke down.

“They burned because the contractors did a very bad job, they put in air conditioning equipment without modifying the transformers, without modifying the cables. They are not ashamed, really, since they told the mothers that they did not have to ask anyone’s opinion because they were autonomous and that they were going to receive the resource from La Escuela es Nuestra, then they put us in a tremendous problem because we have many schools without classes, we have poorly done works and there is no supervision, there is no control, we do not know who is going to be responsible (for the damages),” he declared.

In the Lagunera Region of Durango there are 1,206 basic education educational institutions and there are 150,000 boys, girls and adolescents served by 14 teachers. The official added that to supply water in some schools, they have been relying on pipes sent to them by the water operating organizations of the municipalities of Gómez Palacio and Lerdo, that is, Sideapa and Sapal.
