Heat hits SLP: 10 deaths reported and 78 cases treated due to high temperatures

MEXICO CITY (apro).- A total of 10 deaths and 78 people who required medical attention due to high temperatures in San Luis Potosí, was reported this Friday by the head of Sanitary Jurisdiction V, Gustavo Macías del Río.

In an interview for Pulso Online, the official explained that the affected people are being treated at the General Hospital of Valles, the hospitals of Tamuín, Ébano, El Naranjo, Tamasopo and at the IMSS. There are six people in serious condition.

According to Macías, in the General Hospital there were five deaths – four men and one woman -, and in the IMSS in Ciudad Valles there were four deaths.

The temperature in the entity has reached 49 degrees, with a sensation of 55 degrees.

In the middle of the second heat wave – which began on May 3 – the federal Ministry of Health (Ssa) announced that there were seven deaths due to heat stroke in the country, as well as 337 accumulated cases of health damage due to natural temperatures. extreme.

The Ssa figures are accumulated since the beginning of the 2024 heat season, which began on March 17 and will end on October 5, a period in which there will be five heat waves. The first was between April 13 and 21.

According to data from the secretariat itself reviewed by Proceso, the current year represents a historical record in terms of deaths due to heat stroke and cases treated, since in 2023, during Epidemiological Week 18, the country registered three deaths and 267 cases .

Likewise, the state most affected by cases treated for heat stroke is Tabasco, with 105; then Chiapas (35), Jalisco (28), Morelos (20) and Veracruz (20). The damage to health has been due to heat stroke, dehydration and burns.
