‘Healthy Life Festival’ in Samsun

SAMSUN – While a road map was determined for citizens to protect their health at the ‘Healthy Life Festival’ held in Samsun, children were also directed to sports with various activities.

3- The ‘Healthy Life Festival’ organized in cooperation with the Samsun Provincial Health Directorate, Canik Municipality, Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services and Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports within the scope of September 9 Public Health Week was held in front of the Canik Municipality.

In the event organized to protect the health of citizens and help them create a roadmap, blood pressure, blood sugar, height and weight measurements were performed free of charge by health teams. At the stands, questions of citizens were answered on many subjects such as breast examination-education, pregnant information, rational drug use, chronic diseases, tuberculosis, physical activity practices, SMA disease, infectious diseases, first aid, combating addiction and environmental health.

Uras: “Our priority is to protect people’s health”

Stating that early detection and diagnosis are of vital importance, Samsun Provincial Health Director Specialist Dr. Mustafa Uras said, “Our September 3-9 Public Health Week activities continue at full speed. In terms of health, our main duty is not just to treat. Our priority is to protect people’s health. In other words, not to get sick or to diagnose an illness early. We have different activities here within the scope of primary health services. The stands explain the importance of breast milk, what to pay attention to in babies and nutrition. At the same time, information is given about cancer and our early diagnosis centers. It explains how to perform breast examinations for women over a certain age or what kind of findings they should apply to hospitals or KETEM centers. Information is given here about many public health issues. We have a stand that provides information about scabies. What to do in case of itching or protection methods and what to do during the treatment process are explained here in much more detail. We have different activities related to children and adults being active and directing them to sports by the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports. “Our main goal is to protect people’s health before they get sick, and if there is a disease, to diagnose it as soon as possible and start treatment,” he said.

President Sandıkçı: “We have to raise awareness in society in every field”

Stating that they attach importance to activities to raise awareness among citizens, Canik Mayor İbrahim Sandıkçı said, “We are hosting a very important activity. We saw it while visiting the stands. In fact, the treatment and diagnosis of many diseases are very easy. Our Ministry of Health has developed serious practical methods in this sense. Our field research shows that our citizens are not very interested in these. In fact, we have seen that many diseases can be detected with very simple tests and checks that even they can do themselves. Raising awareness among our citizens about early diagnosis and diagnosis with the stands that are opened is important for everyone. We have to raise awareness in every field. We also had our blood pressure measured. Our blood pressure was a little high. It is necessary to take precautions. The important thing is to be able to make the diagnosis at an early stage. For this reason, our Provincial Health Directorate is working with the necessary devotion. We would like to express our gratitude to all institutions that contributed to the creation of this awareness.”

Children also had a great time in the program that included various sports activities as part of the festival.

2023 statistics

On the other hand, in the information provided by the Provincial Health Directorate, it was stated that in 2023, 56 thousand 500 people in Samsun had mammography, 650 of them had positive findings and were sent to a higher center, and in addition, approximately 32 thousand people in Samsun were screened for cervical cancer, and 620 of these people had findings in the screenings performed as a first step and were referred to a higher center for treatment.
