Standard are hoping to start again in 2024 after a disappointing first half of the season. A new coach has arrived with Ivan Leko, but he is still waiting for reinforcements. However, he had to let one player leave, because Isaac Hayden already looked good after six months in Liège.
The England midfielder has played little in recent months and his loan deal was broken this month by Newcastle United, who are now looking for a new destination for him. Meanwhile, the 28-year-old is still giving his all at Standard.
Hayden is still waiting for his back wages
According to Hayden, real abuse occurs in Sclessin. “The main reason why I left Standard is because the club doesn’t pay him his wages on time. Or doesn’t even pay them at all,” he explains to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Hayden also announces that he will initiate legal proceedings against Standard. “I received my salary for November on December 28th. They haven’t paid the bonuses to the players yet and I’m still waiting for my salary for December even though it’s almost the end of January. It’s really a disaster!” he grumbles.
Major concerns about the Standard’s financial situation
In recent months it has become clear that Standard is once again facing serious financial problems. In December, the club was also briefly placed under a transfer ban by the Licensing Commission, but this was quickly lifted after the necessary arrears were paid.
However, the problems appear to run much deeper. In the meantime, increasingly dubious news continues to arrive from abroad regarding the solvency of the 777 partners, because all the other clubs in their portfolio are also struggling with skyrocketing debts. And then they want to take Everton too…
