Hasaranga explained the reason behind the loss to the Tigers – 2024-06-09 09:44:01

Bangladesh started the World Cup with a hard-earned 2-wicket win by restricting Sri Lanka to 124 runs. After Rishad Hossain’s cannon, the Tigers got the victory by relying on the innings of 40 runs from 20 balls by Tawhid Hossain.

After losing the first match against South Africa by 6 wickets, Sri Lanka also lost to Bangladesh at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas today. Lankan captain Wanindu Hasaranga explained the reason for their defeat in the post-match speech.

Hasaranga blamed their batting for this loss. He thinks that the Lankans could not finish the batting the way it started.

Pathum Nishanka and Kushal Mendis started the aggressive batting. Sri Lanka scored 53 runs losing 2 wickets in 6 overs of Powerplay. And in the end they could only score 124 runs with the bat. In other words, in the last 14 overs, the Lankan batsmen managed to score 71 runs and lost 7 wickets.

Hasaranga attributed his loss to a late batting disaster. After the match he said, ‘Our batsmen batted really well in the first 8-10 overs. Then in the middle overs I think we batted poorly. In the last two matches, the batsmen could not fulfill their duties. This is very difficult to accept. We lost the first two matches.’

Bangladesh took the match in the 19th over. All-rounder Dasun Shanaka came to do that over. Mahmudullah hit him for a six on the first ball. This experienced right-handed batsman scored the required 11 runs in that over and gifted victory to Bangladesh.

Shanaka was forced to bowl by Sri Lanka. Because, the professional 4 bowlers have already completed their overs. Bangladesh has made good use of this strategic mistake of the Lankans.

Referring to the matter, Hasaranga said, ‘We all know that our bowling attack is the main strength. Especially if the batsmen score 150-160 our bowling attack can win the match. We bowled with four main bowlers. I think our four real bowlers have done their job. But unfortunately our all-rounders had to bowl 4 overs.’
