There is no scientific evidence to support the link between chocolate and acne. Chocolate itself does not cause acne. However, it is worth considering that candies may contain additives. Fats and sugars increase the glycemic index and calorie content of chocolate. Fats can also increase the synthesis of hormones, including testosterone.

Publika.az nutritionist Irina Mansurova said these words in her statement to “Gazeta.ru”.

He said that too much chocolate can cause the sebaceous glands to enlarge, which in turn will increase oil production. In addition, the milk in chocolate can cause acne breakouts. It disrupts the intestinal microflora, which causes more activation of pathogenic bacteria, inflammation on the face.

“Chocolate is a strong allergen, if you are too in love with it, you can experience edema or urticaria (hives). Chocolate also contains chitin, which is obtained during the processing of cocoa beans. Of course, you need to control the content of chocolate – how many sweeteners, dyes and other if there are additives, the risk of unwanted manifestations is higher,” Mansurova explained in an interview.

He mentioned that chocolate also contains cocoa butter and oleic acid, which is one-quarter carboxylic acid and one-third stearic acid. Both of these substances do not significantly affect the amount of cholesterol in the body. Conversely, chocolate can further lower cholesterol levels. The key is knowing when to stop. According to a nutritionist, you can eat one or two slices of dark chocolate a day, and according to scientists, only chocolate with a cocoa content of more than 60% has anti-cholesterol properties.

Chocolate is said to be bad for the heart because it contains a lot of caffeine. The 100% product contains 240 mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to 2.5 cups of coffee. So it is safe and not more than the daily dose. Dark chocolate with 55% cocoa contains 124 mg of caffeine, and 33% milk chocolate contains 45 mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to a cup of black tea. But you need to pay more attention to the sugar in chocolate, because together with caffeine, it can cause changes in the nervous system.

It is also claimed that chocolate is addictive. This belief is likely due to the fact that all foods high in carbohydrates, including chocolate, lead to addictive cravings. The nutritionist noted that chocolate also affects dopamine, which is popularly called the hormone of joy and pleasure.

“As a result of a number of studies, it has been found that chocolate is one of the most problematic foods that cause addiction for humans. It has also been identified as the most addictive food. Caffeine in its content can cause additional addiction,” Mansurova warned.
