Haritsi’s call to the opposition for a joint initiative on the Palestinian issue – The five points

The New Left calls for a joint initiative for the Palestinian with five points with a letter from Alexis Haritsis to the presidents of the parliamentary groups of SYRIZA – PS, PASOK – KINAL, KKE and Plefsis Eleftherias.

Specifically, on Thursday morning, the president of the New Left parliamentary group issued a call for a joint request with the following subject:

1. The holding of a pre-agenda debate in the Parliament on the international initiatives that our country will undertake for the immediate ceasefire.

2. The recognition of the State of Palestine pursuant to the unanimous decision of the Hellenic Parliament of 2015.

3. The immediate convening of a Council of political leaders under the President of the Republic.

4. That the Government request the convening of an Extraordinary EU Summit.

5. The immediate return of the “HYDRA” frigate from the Red Sea.

What does the New Left president say in the letter?

As Alexis Haritsis emphasizes in his letter, “Greece must play a leading role in an international initiative that will block the Netanyahu government’s decision to escalate the invasion of the Palestinian territories. A development that literally means the expulsion of the civilian population and an incalculable number of victims. The European Union cannot continue to play the role of Pontius Pilate when countries such as Egypt and Qatar are taking initiatives to restart diplomatic negotiations. It must demand an immediate ceasefire and the cessation of any form of hostilities.”

He then adds that “the Greek government should immediately carry out all the necessary procedures in order to recognize the State of Palestine, based on the unanimous decision of the Hellenic Parliament of 2015. It should also coordinate its actions with the governments of Spain, Ireland and Malta who have expressed a corresponding intention and to work for the recognition of a Palestinian State by the EU”.
