Gullegem cyclocross course partly under water: “But the cross is not compromised”

Due to the heavy rains that have hit Belgium in recent days, part of the Hexia Cross route in Gullegem is flooded. However, there is no reason to panic. “Competition will certainly not be affected,” the organization told the news agency Belgian.

Gullegem’s course has had to endure a lot of strain in recent days, but the organization is not worried about next Saturday. “This is not the first time we have encountered such a situation. Already at our first edition, in 2018, the grounds were flooded a few days before the competition”, explains Kevin Defieuw of the organizing committee.

“The match is certainly not in danger. We are monitoring the situation closely, as during a drier period the water level can drop rapidly. If not, we will change the route. After all, it is a small, lower part of the route.”

With Tom Pidcock, Thibau Nys and Michael Vanthourenhout, this year too the organization can count on some top riders for men’s cross. In the women’s match the focus is on Ceylin from Carmen Alvarado.
