“Guitar Nights” with David Chapman in Quito and Guayaquil

With the aim of providing a space to appreciate music, the Ecuadorian North American Center (CEN) will bring to Ecuador a concert con David Chapman.

The concert is called “Guitar Nights: The historical transformation of the Ibero-American guitar”, with the artist Ecuadorian-North American David Chapman.

The concert of nights guitar It will have two presentations: the first on Wednesday, January 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the library of the CEN headquarters in Guayaquil, located at Luis Urdaneta #112 and Córdova.


The second will be on Friday, January 12, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the auditorium of its headquarters in Quito, located on Amazonas and La Prensa avenues.

Both recitals will be open to the general public, with free admission, and are aimed especially at lovers of good music, romantic, classical and flamenco guitar.

The program will include Spanish music of the romantic genre from 1830, with pieces by Dionisio Aguado and Fernando Sor; and the Guitar Sonata, by the Mexican composer Samuel Zyman, of contemporary classical genre with characteristic strumming contrasting with those of Spanish flamenco.

As part of the closing, there will be the flamenco work Piropo a la Soleá by Francisco Merenciano & Mario Escudero.

At the end, Chapman will perform Raindrop, a work of his own.

The concerts will be dedicated to the memory of the Ecuadorian professor and educator, Julio Candell, who died in November 2023.

David Chapman in Ecuador

David Chapman currently heads the Guitar Department at Stanislaus University and is the artistic director of the “Guitarraganza” festival, which has been held annually since 2012 in the Central Valley of California.

In addition, he is an outstanding musician who has studies in Germany, Italy, the United States and Ecuador.

He has participated as a soloist with the Córdoba Chamber Orchestra (Argentina), and the Sacramento Symphony.

Also in the Austin Chamber Orchestra, San Francisco Conservatory Orchestra, Guayaquil Symphony and Sacramento Chamber Music Society.

“The talent of this renowned guitarist has allowed him to give lectures, demonstrations and concerts on classical, flamenco and lute guitars in highly prestigious settings. For us it is a privilege to be able to share his music and career with the Guayaquil and Quito communities, who will be able to delight in his art,” said Deborah Chiriboga High, general director of CEN.

He adds that this space will offer the public the opportunity to listen to a guitar master live, who will perform melodies from various eras.

These concerts mark the beginning of the CEN’s free cultural agenda for the public in 2024, through which it seeks to generate new audiences.
