Guatemala interoceanic corridor launches tokenization in El Salvador

Homicide rates in El Salvador continue down. Between January and September 2025 there were 60 cases, an 87 % reduction compared to the same 2022 period, when the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR) accounted for 445.

According to official statistics, 2023 closed with 110 homicides and 2024 with 102, figures that reflect a sustained decrease in the last three years. So far from 2025, the monthly averages have remained below a daily case, with Julio registering the lowest figure: 0.06 homicides per day.

The decrease in crimes is attributed to the security strategies implemented by the Government, including the territorial control plan and the exception regime, which have allowed to dismantle criminal structures and reduce the incidence of violent crimes.

The authorities indicated that most registered homicides are no longer linked to gangs, but with cases of social and family intolerance. From January to July of this year, only five of the murders were related to crime, while 27 occurred for social intolerance and 15 for family conflicts.

The Minister of Security, Gustavo Villatoro, explained that much of the violent events originate in contexts where the victims and aggressors consumed alcohol. “We have identified that family and social intolerance, together with alcohol, are the main factors behind these cases,” he said.

For his part, the attorney general, Rodolfo Delgado, stressed that the homicides committed with firearms have also decreased, breaking a historical trend in the country.

The security cabinet maintains that impunity has been practically eliminated thanks to the homicide resolution protocol (Prho), through which more than seven specialized units act immediately after each case. This strategy allowed to reach 98.2 % resolution in 2024, and by 2025 the authorities ensure that all homicides have been clarified with the capture of those responsible.

One of the recent cases was the arrest of Henry Bladimir Guandique Jiménez, 27, accused of killing his partner in Apopa after an argument while ingesting alcoholic beverages, the National Civil Police (PNC) reported.
