Specialists in Education and Teachers consider that the recent measures implemented by the Ministry of Education (MINED) are necessary to strengthen discipline in schools and mark a new course in the educational system.
Christian Colón, teacher and writer, said that these policies seek to return their original approach to education, promoting students to develop their maximum potential. According to Columbus, discipline must involve not only students, but also parents and teachers, creating a comprehensive educational policy that promotes values and order in institutions.
The specialist highlighted the importance of establishing a hierarchical structure in basic and middle education, which contributes to the training of students’ identity and personality, in contrast to the effects of a “liberal” society that has weakened disciplinary processes.
Recently, President Nayib Bukele said that the lack of discipline in the past contributed to the recruitment of young people by gangs, generating serious social and criminal consequences.
Along the same lines, analyst David Hernández said that the education system suffered an institutional carelessness that allowed social deterioration, aggravated by political corruption and lack of attention to the needs of the population.
For his part, the sociologist and teacher Mauricio Rodríguez stressed that these measures also claim the role of the teacher and seek to prevent the formation of new gangs in the more than 5,150 schools in the country, where some students have family ties with active gang members.
Specialists agree that these actions represent an important step to recover discipline, promote civic values and strengthen security in the Salvadoran educational environment.
