The President of the Republic, Nayib Bukele, firmly responded to the statements of the Secretary of Security and Protection of Mexico, Omar García Harfuch, who said that a plane intercepted in Mexican territory with cocaine came from El Salvador.
Bukele described the accusation as false and clarified that, according to official reports, the aircraft never entered the Salvadoran airspace. He indicated that on July 3, Costa Rica reported a “suspicious trace” of the plane northwest of its territory, activating a regional alert through the Central American Air Safety Network APAN. The trajectory of the ship showed that he entered Costa Rica, briefly disappeared from the radar and then went out to the Pacific, without flying over El Salvador.

The confirmation of this route also came from Jiatfs Key West, an American agency that monitors illicit air traffic in the region, which ratified that the aircraft never touched Salvadoran territory.
Bukele also revealed unpublished details about the crew, all Mexicans: Leonardo Alonso Parra Pérez (pilot), José Adán Jalavera Ceballos (Copiloto) and Felipe Villa Gutiérrez, all identified by the authorities.
The Salvadoran president emphasized that “El Salvador does not conceal criminals or tolerates drug trafficking” and refused to be involved in “operations that do not correspond to us or belong to us.” Given this situation, he asked the Mexican government to clarify and immediate rectification, and announced that he will call the Salvadoran ambassador to the consultation in Mexico.

El Salvador maintains a strong fight against drug trafficking; In the first semester of 2025, the National Navy seized more than 18 tons of cocaine, valued at more than 449 million dollars, processing all those captured by traffic.
Hours later, García Harfuch recognized in his official X account that the plane did not enter Salvadoran territory and confirmed that the crew members were Mexican citizens, reaffirming Bukele’s position.
