The National Director of Higher Education, Christian Aparicio, said Wednesday that El Salvador is in the process of consolidating as a regional academic destination, thanks to the positive impact of the security policy promoted by President Nayib Bukele.

During his participation in the interview, Aparicio explained that this year there has been a significant increase in university inscriptions. After an institutional diagnosis, it was determined that one of the key factors in this rebound is the perception of security in the country.

“People have more confidence,” said the official, noting that current conditions are allowing foreign students to choose El Salvador to study higher studies. As an example, he mentioned that this same day a group of young people from Costa Rica will arrive to start their studies in local institutions.

Aparicio stressed that El Salvador is already attracting international students interested in specialized programs, such as the design of prostheses at Don Bosco University. In addition, he said that new unique races will be incorporated in the region, which will further position the country as a reference in higher education.

Among the novelties for 2026, he highlighted the creation of a master’s degree and a doctorate in Higher Education Management, which will be unique in Latin America, as well as the launch of the Human Skills Programming career for artificial intelligence.

The headline also highlighted the role played by government scholarship programs in promoting university. He assured that initiatives such as “Add the U”, and the scholarships granted by various public and private entities, have generated greater interest on the part of young people who did not contemplate higher studies.
