Guatemala interoceanic corridor launches tokenization in El Salvador

The United States Department of Justice confirmed this Friday that Kilmar Abrego García, Salvadoran citizen deported by error last March, was repatriated and is already in custody to face federal charges related to traffic of people, conspiracy and links with the MS-13 gang.

Attorney General Pam Bondi reported that Abrego García, 29, “has landed in the United States to face justice,” and added that once her sentence is completed, her return to El Salvador is expected. The accused resided in Maryland with his wife and children before being mistakenly deported with a group of Venezuelan gang members and citizens, being subsequently held at the Center for Confinement of Terrorism (CECOT).

According to the accusation presented by the Tennessee Average District Court, Abrego García is indicated to collaborate with the MS-13 transnational criminal organization, facilitating illegal operations such as migrant traffic, in addition to money laundering and cover-up. The report indicates that he participated in a network that moved migrants from Texas to other states, collecting payments and hiding funds from illicit origin.

Irregular deportation unleashed controversy in the US. Civil organizations had sued their return, although legally it was only possible through an official request from the US government, to prevent the Savior from incurring people trafficking.

President Nayib Bukele referred to the case, ensuring that his administration collaborated with the government of then President Donald Trump. “If you request the return of a gang member to face charges, of course we would not deny,” he said.
