The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that it is providing support to the families of the eight Salvadorans who lost their lives in a fatal traffic accident that occurred on the I-85 interstate highway, in Jackson County, state of Georgia, United States.
According to unofficial reports, the victims would be from the department of San Vicente. So far, six of the eight deceased have been identified: Maribel Ramírez, 42 years old; Justin Ramirez, 16 years old; Andy Ramirez, 14 years old; Natali Ramírez, 11 years old; Evan Ramírez, 3 years and 7 months; and Kenia Ramírez, 22 years old, who was three months pregnant. Among the victims are five minors, which has generated deep regret in the Salvadoran community inside and outside the country.
The accident occurred when the truck in which they were traveling was hit by a tow truck, causing a fire that consumed the vehicle. The driver of the truck, identified as Kane Aaron Hammock, 33, faces eight charges, including vehicular manslaughter, distracted driving and operating a vehicle without a valid license plate.




Through a statement, the Foreign Ministry regretted the death of the compatriots and expressed its solidarity with the affected relatives. In addition, he confirmed that his consular representation in Duluth, Georgia, is providing assistance and support in the corresponding efforts.
The institution reiterated its commitment to continue accompanying the families in these moments of pain and assured that they are coordinating actions to facilitate the procedures for repatriating the bodies to El Salvador.
