The 2026 General State Budget Bill entails an important allocation of resources to develop social programs whose benefits reach the population, through different areas.
“The fund for social programs that the budget incorporates is $1,002.7 million, which will directly benefit the population,” said the Minister of Finance, Jerson Posada, during the presentation he gave to the members of the finance and special budget commission of the Legislative Assembly.
Some of the sectors that will benefit from these programs are children, adolescents and young students; as well as women, the elderly population, the population in poverty, people who have been victims of serious violations, among other vulnerable sectors.
For the development of social programs in the area of education, $717.8 million is allocated, which is equivalent to 71.6% of the total contemplated.
«Within these social programs, on the health side, the Integrated Health Program is included, with $6.4 million; all programs related to My New School for $591.5 million; and this includes support for teacher professionalization ($7.5 million); school health care and nutrition ($20.4 million); attention to early childhood education and Child Development Centers ($261.6 million); and investment projects for $301.1 million,” Posada explained.
The Executive has foreseen the need for a school budget of $21.7 million by 2026; Likewise, $21.8 million to continue delivering the free bonus; and $5.6 million for the virtual university and young talent program.
These social programs also include those that are focused on eradicating poverty and promoting local economic development, for which an allocation of $35.1 million is available.
Among the destinations there are $24.9 million for care of the elderly and people with disabilities; while the remaining $10.1 million will be for productive development, support for the prevention of violence, the development of safe spaces, for the coexistence of young people in El Salvador, and for the compensation program for victims of serious violations.
The Minister of Finance mentioned that $185.7 million is also budgeted for the care of veterans and ex-combatants.
In addition, it is planned to maintain the agricultural bond, for which the need for a fund of $5.9 million is considered.
The Executive estimates that another $5.9 million is necessary to develop the Ciudad Mujer program; while $5.2 million will be to carry out comprehensive development programs for the inhabitants of El Mozote and surrounding sites; for the comprehensive care of war veterans and for the Territories of Progress Program.
