Guatemala Interoceanic Corridor launches tokenization in El Salvador

The National Civil Protection Commission yesterday declared a stratified alert in El Salvador due to persistent rains and called on the population to abide by the protection measures.

The director of Civil Protection, Luis Alonso Amaya, reported that orange alert was activated in 13 municipalities of the coastal strip, while the rest of the territory maintains yellow alert. “The orange alert implies keeping the operations centers active, managing information and operationalizing municipal and departmental plans,” he explained.

Amaya added that authorities focus on the distribution of first response teams for search, rescue and evacuation in case of emergencies that affect property or infrastructure. “All institutions remain on alert to respond to emergencies derived from weather conditions,” he stressed.

Since Monday, the rains have caused damage in several areas of the country. Among the reported incidents, fallen trees were recorded in San Salvador, San Miguel, La Libertad, Usulután, Sonsonate, Santa Ana and La Paz, as well as landslides of varying magnitude in San Salvador, Usulután, La Libertad, Chalatenango and La Paz.

Among the emergencies attended to yesterday, Civil Protection removed earth at kilometer 6 of the Army Boulevard, in San Salvador Este, and a fallen tree at kilometer 26 of the Panorama Route, in Santiago Texacuangos, San Salvador Sur. In addition, three homes were damaged, with one deceased in the Beatriz neighborhood, Ciudad Delgado.

In Juayúa, Sonsonate Norte, the overflowing of the El Quequeiscal stream was reported, threatening several families and their homes. So far, 180 equipped shelters have been set up, of which three are active in Chalatenango, San Vicente and Bajo Lempa, Usulután, with 32 people evacuated, including 13 minors.

The Minister of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez, indicated that his portfolio works in coordination with Civil Protection, the Armed Forces and other institutions to mitigate risks, while the Minister of the Environment, Fernando López, indicated that the rains, caused by tropical waves, will decrease in the coming days.
