On April 23, 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony for the modernization and extension of the school for health and nursing as well as for child care at the Salzkammergut Klinikum Gmunden took place.
This is a big step towards modern healthcare training. A total of around ten million euros will be invested. The modernization and optimization of the premises for trainees and teachers goes hand in hand with the creation of attractive, child-friendly group rooms for the company crèche at the Salzkammergut Clinic.
Until February 2024, the school was housed in the building constructed in 1971 and 1972. Due to the length of use, there was a need for renovation. New training courses, such as starting training as a nursing starter at 15, and the variety of full-time and part-time training models as well as part-time training made an extension or new building necessary.

The new, expanded building will house five classrooms, practical instruction rooms, offices for nursing educators, four patient rooms as practice rooms, two simulation rooms as well as meeting rooms and other ancillary rooms such as storage rooms etc. for the school. In addition, space will be created for three playgroups including ancillary rooms.
After the renovation, 30 children will be able to be cared for at the same time; currently, this is possible for 15 children. In addition, the building will have 21 rooms for trainees and clinic staff, ranging in size from 23 to 34 m2 incl. bathroom/WC The general renovation of the existing building and the construction of the extension should be completed by December 2025.
