Well-known climate activist Greta Thunberg was detained by police in The Hague during another protest organized by the Extinction Rebellion (XR) movement, Liter.kz reports with reference to news.
Protesters blocked one of the main highways of The Hague, the A12, which connects the city with other major cities in the Netherlands. Police used water cannons to disperse the demonstrators and clear the road.
“Twenty-one-year-old Thunberg was taken away from the scene of the protest. This is not the first time that the activist has found herself at the center of such protests. Earlier, in April, police detained Thunberg at a similar protest in The Hague. At the end of May, she was arrested during pro-Palestinian protests in Malmö, Sweden, which were against Israel’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. About two weeks ago, Thunberg was also detained at an Extinction Rebellion protest in Helsinki,” the source said.
Extinction Rebellion activists continue their protests demanding the government stop subsidising fossil fuels and vow to continue their actions until their demands are met.
