Greens/Black on falling inflation: “Relief for all people in Austria” – 2024-03-18 18:18:22

The lowest inflation rate since December 2021 is providing relief

Vienna (OTS) “Energy prices, together with food prices, have no longer become a driver of inflation, but rather a brake. “This is also thanks to the federal government’s price-cutting measures,” said Jakob Schwarz, spokesman for the Green Party for budget and taxes, about the confirmed trend of falling inflation. On the one hand, these work directly through the electricity price brake and, on the other hand, through greater transparency on the energy market. The measures for more fairness on the energy market give customers the right to flexibly adjust their monthly rates and energy companies are obliged to inform customers about alternative offers. This ensures that the relaxation we see in wholesale energy prices also reaches customers directly.

“We are still in a fragile situation, especially due to the dependence on Russian gas that was entrenched by previous governments. That’s why we must continue to do everything we can to reduce dependence: the best measure to combat inflation sustainably is to expand renewable energies. “That’s why I’m pleased that Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler is taking a further step towards climate protection and energy independence with the new investment support for the expansion of renewable energy sources,” says Schwarz.
