Vienna (OTS) – “The rejection of the designated artistic director of the Vienna Tanzquartier is part of a series of unsuccessful appointments in the cultural sector. While international calls for applications from large cultural institutions follow a clearly formalized, transparent process, appointments in Vienna often seem to be hand-made,” said Ursula Berner, culture spokesperson for the Vienna Greens, commenting on the current withdrawal of the top-ranked applicants for the artistic direction of the Tanzquartier.
At the Volkstheater, all candidates were passed over and Kay Voges was then pulled out of the hat. At the Kunsthalle, the city councilor publicly stated that none of the applicants met her quality standards, so a new tender was put out to tender. Now, shortly before the contract is signed, the next international personality has canceled, and the Tanzquartier has to look for new management by the end of August. “In order to avoid such embarrassments in the future, Vienna urgently needs a revision of the tendering procedures in line with international standards. It starts with the tender text, continues with the appointment of the jury members and ends with the actual selection procedures,” says Berner.
