Greco-Roman wrestlers reap laurels in competitions in Estonia

On January 12 and 13, the 43rd Avo Talpas commemorative Greco-Roman wrestling tournament took place in the Estonian city of Kohtla-Jarve, in which athletes from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland participated.

Andrejs Hudyakovs (48 kg) and Ruslans Bormotovs (55 kg) became the champions of the U17 age group. Second place was won by Olivers Irklis (71kg), but third place went to Emils Solovjov (92kg) and Mark Mikolajenko (110kg). In the adult competition, however, 1st place went to Andris Grīnberg (130 kg), as well as 3rd place to Kārlis Stelp (82 kg).

Athletes’ coach Jānis Rērihs admits: “At the moment the main task is to gain experience in competitions and prepare for the next Latvian championships in spring. Several athletes competed in a new age group and weight category, but overall our Wrestlers showed a commendable performance.”
