The British government will allocate 117 million pounds (approximately 150 million dollars) for the protection of Muslim communities amid growing Islamophobia in the country. This was reported by the Reuters agency.
“There is no place for anti-Muslim hatred in our society. We will not allow events in the Middle East to be used as an excuse to justify violence against British Muslims,” said British Home Secretary James Cleverley.
Reuters reports that the Tell Mama group, which records incidents against Muslims, has reported a 335% increase in such incidents since October 7, during the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian radical movement Hamas.
The new funding was announced a week after pledging additional funds to increase security for Jewish groups. According to the British government, the new funding will be used to protect mosques, Muslim religious schools and other community centers. The minister explained that the money will be spent on security measures, which include the alarm system, fences and cameras.
