Vienna (OTS) – The insolvency of the discounter Pepco costs over 600 employees in Austria their jobs. The GPA Lower Austria union is available to affected employees at any time and was also on site at many works meetings together with the Lower Austria Chamber of Labor to support and advise the employees. The news of the bankruptcy hit many employees hard; at the end of February, salary payments were stopped at short notice. Many of Pepco’s employees are women who have previously found it difficult to make ends meet.

“How is it possible that a company that was still talking about expansion plans in Austria in 2021 and currently wants to continue to expand in Europe suddenly files for bankruptcy? It is not the first time that employees and the general public, we as taxpayers, have to pay the bill through insolvency proceedings for the mistakes of an ice-cold company and the managers,” said the managing director of the GPA Lower Austria union, Michael Pieber.
