Linz/Bregenz (OTS) – Abortions have been performed at the Bregenz State Hospital since November 2023. The reason was the retirement of the doctor Hostenkamp and the closure of his abortion practice – the only one in Vorarlberg. The state government argued that they did not want to create a ‘gap in care’ under any circumstances. But Hostenkamp is still active – how come?! The protests of the people of Vorarlberg are becoming increasingly noticeable.
In a press conference on October 25, 2023, Governor Wallner announced that hospitals would have to be used as abortion facilities after all. This was solely because no abortion options could be created in the outpatient sector.
More than half a year after abortions were introduced at the LKH, Primar Rohde confirmed in the podcast “We need to talk” of the Vorarlberg News of May 24, 2024, that Hostenkamp will continue to perform abortions in his practice. The lucrative business was apparently not yet ready to give way to his “well-deserved retirement” that was so heavily emphasized in the media. The house of cards of the ‘supply bottleneck’ built by the state government is thus collapsing completely.
Protest of Vorarlberg residents grows
The presence of “demonstrators” against abortion is also criticized in Rohde’s interview. At the end of May, the LKH planted almost 300 tall thujas at the location where vigils have been held several times a week since abortion was introduced at the hospital (Maria-Stromberger-Weg). The hedge was intended as a visual barrier to shield the worshipers. The number of hedge plants corresponds almost exactly to the (estimated) 300 children who are said to lose their lives in the Bregenz LKH every year. “It is as if the hospital had built a memorial for the children killed,” says Gabriela Huber, chairwoman of Youth for Life. “The planting campaign seems like an admission of guilt: do those responsible at the hospital and in politics have an unpleasant truth to hide? The message of the pro-life advocates will continue to be visible,” assures Huber. As before, pro-life activists will gather in front of the hospital every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for vigils.
Clear demand from the Vorarlberg pro-life activists: Abortion must be removed from the Bregenz State Hospital
Youth for Life emphasizes once again that a child dies with every abortion. An unborn child is not an illness and abortion is not a health service. The state’s job is to protect life and not to provide state infrastructure for killing. “The devastating wrong decision for prenatal child killings at the LKH must be reversed immediately! Even the cheap justification for this has now been reduced to absurdity. We demand the resignation of State Health Minister Rüscher, who has deceived the citizens of Vorarlberg and the state governor with this bogus argument,” Huber concludes.
