Governor of Samsun Receives Special National Athletes

Governor of Samsun Orhan Tavlı congratulated the special national athletes, who are the pride of Turkey and achieved championships and records in the ‘Special Athletes Virtus European Athletics Championship’, by receiving them in his office.

Special national athletes Fatma Damla Altın, Esra Bayrak, Eda Yıldırım, Edanur Akın and Doğukan Bostancı, who made Samsun and Turkey proud with their success at the Special Athletes Virtus European Athletics Championship held in Sweden on 6-11 June 2024, visited Governor Orhan Tavlı in his office, together with Provincial Director of Youth and Sports Feyzullah Dereci and their coach Aytunç Göz.

Governor Tavlı said, “I congratulate our special national athletes from Samsun and wish them continued success in the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games where they will represent our country between August 25 and September 6, 2024.”

World and European records

At the Special Athletes Virtus European Athletics Championships, Fatma Damla Altın won first place in the 4x100m relay race/4x400m world record, Esra Bayrak won the 4x200m team championship, Eda Yıldırım won first place in the javelin throw, third place in the hammer and shot put, Edanur Akın won first place in the 3,000m water obstacle race/European record, Doğukan Bostancı won first place in the 4x200m relay race/second place in the 400m. Special national athletes from Samsun won a total of 6 gold medals, 3 silver medals, 1 bronze medal, 1 world record and 1 European record. – SAMSUN
