Government maintains coordinated work to care for the population during the rain emergency

The Government’s efforts continue and it continues to work to protect the population in the face of the national emergency. The rains continue to wreak havoc in the country.

The coordinated work does not stop, this allows actions to be carried out to immediately respond to all emergencies and save people who reside in areas most vulnerable to the effects of constant rainfall.

The Minister of the Interior and president of the National Civil Protection Commission of El Salvador, Juan Carlos Bidegain, reported that, of the 125 equipped shelters, there are currently 61 active ones, which have housed 1,928 people. Of the total number of people, 1,022 are adults and 906 are minors. This represents 28% of the installed capacity so far.

“We are still going to continue receiving rain. Please, let’s avoid crossing rivers, streams or any water current that is generated in storms. We remain in a state of emergency, let’s not let our guard down, even if the rains decrease in some areas,” he urged.

Meanwhile, the head of the Ministry of the Environment, Fernando López, explained that in the southern zone rains have been recorded from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and in points such as La Hachadura, the San Miguel volcano and Berlin, in Usulután, where They have had rains lasting more than 16 hours.

“In the Apaneca area, we have 577 millimeters of rain, equivalent to a quarter of what falls in the year, of the national average, which is 2,000 millimeters of rain. Even though we see that there are times when the rain comes down, we must not let our guard down,” López emphasized.

The head of the Ministry of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez Herrera, reported that only yesterday more than 200 fallen trees were attended to, while since the rain emergency began there have been more than 300. He also said that on the Los Naranjos route there have been response to seven eventualities. The work of the institutions guarantees that the country’s main routes have full connectivity.
