About, the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohásaid this Friday from La Moneda that “in this new stage of the investigation,” the Government “will actively provide all collaboration” to the Public Ministry.
“What was known yesterday has been the result of the work that the Prosecutor’s Office has done since this terrible crime was committed, in which, step by step, antecedents have been sought, prioritizing certain theses over others, based on what the investigation has shown. And what that leads us to is that, in the next phase, the international aspects of this investigation are going to take a determining role,” he stressed.
“By virtue of that, we are going to put all the instruments we have at our disposal to serve the effort to do justice in this case, supporting the Prosecutor’s Office in its request for international criminal assistance, through diplomatic efforts, contacts with the (Venezuelan) authorities ), and also participation with a very clear and firm voice in international forums, demanding the collaboration of the Venezuelan government in the effort of this investigation,” he added.
Along the same lines, Tohá stressed the Executive’s intention to “seek to generate the greatest possible cohesion behind this case, because what matters is the best interest of the country. A case like this, with the implications it has, must have at its center that justice is done, that the truth is found, those responsible are apprehended and that they face the sentences that correspond to them.”
“What happened in this crime is important for Chile, we give it the greatest seriousness, but it is also important for Venezuela. Eyes will be on their behavior, and the willingness to collaborate in this investigation has to be demonstrated in facts. Firstly, apprehending those responsible, and secondly, making it easier for them to face justice,” he concluded.
