Government announces the Volcano Classic 2024 event

The honorary president of the National Institute of Sports of El Salvador (Indes) and president of the Salvadoran Basketball Federation (Fesabal), Yamil Bukele, announced the Volcano Classic 2024 event, which will take place between August 9 and 11 and will feature the participation of the Salvadoran basketball team, the champion of the Major Basketball League, Metapán BC; and two American teams.

The international teams participating will be: McNeese St. University, division one of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Sports Reach College All Stars, from the United States.

“The climate that El Salvador is experiencing in terms of security, the sports facilities that were renovated, that were built for the Central American games San Salvador 2022, the environment that exists in El Salvador is no longer as difficult and even unimaginable as it was before (that teams would come to the country to train),” explained Bukele.

The basketball games will be held at the José Adolfo Pineda National Gymnasium, prior to the first games, the U22 national team will face the Sports Reach College All Stars, on August 8. With these events, a Basketball Clinic for Children will be held, which will be organized by the Salvadoran national team coach, Sergio Rouco, and his assistant, Rainel Panfet. This clinic will be given to children under 12 years old, in accordance with the regulations of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship.

With this initiative, President Bukele’s government continues to position national sport and the country as a stage and platform for major events, as well as an emerging tourist destination on an international scale. “We want to encourage sports tourism, after the quadrangular they will stay one more week in the country, visiting different tourist destinations,” added the official.
